Social Sitemap or ‘Socialmap’ For Your Blog
I just posted a video tutorial on installing the Social Sitemap plugin for your WordPress Blog.
What is a social sitemap? - or a blog socialmap
Just like your blog itself has a sitemap, showing links to all your content and helping people find their way around; basically a map of your website (blog), so a social sitemap serves the same purpose for you network - showing links to all your social accounts and pages, helping people to find where you are located online.
There are some advantages to this:
- When posted on your own blog - people have easy access to their preferred way of contacting you - all your options are there for them to choose from. Make it easy for people to connect with you. Like an internet business card on steroids.
- Search engines love to follow links, and connect related information - this ‘network’ sitemap will help pull your holistic profile together, linking separate and therefore previously socially weaker profiles.
- As technology advances, these links will be picked up by the different ‘networks’ themselves, and by smart linking they will be able to connect your different profiles automatically - building your online presence for you. It’s started with sites like friendfeed, and social applications on facebook and myspace which link your blogs and profiles.
- As recommended by Charles Heflin of SEO2020, creating your blog as a definitive source and ultimate destination for your social funnel creates a strong presence - and the best place for a definitive contact list.
- Just as the sitemap is now an accepted part of any website, in the social media scene a social-sitemap, or socialmap will also become an accepted and expected element of your social hub or blog - people will be looking for yours - will they find it?
