Find Out Who Influences the Influential on Twitter
This is a brilliant tip from Perry Belcher - a really great way to offer value on twitter, is to retweet useful and new insights. These often come from people who are influential in their field. So how do we go about finding these influential people?
When looking for influential people to follow on twitter, pick a well known person, and look at the first ten or twenty people that they started following on twitter.
Typically when we start on twitter, the people we first follow are the people who have had or do have an influence on us, or are well known experts in their field - people we look to for guidance, advice. And of course, if the person is a successful person, you can bet that the people that they listen to - are people we should also consider listening to..
There’s an easy way to find out who people first started following, who is an influence to them - but it’s not obvious.
Why do I need to Know This?
Almost instantly, you will be able to offer content of value. That’s the beauty of twitter - it doesn’t have to be all your content - people welcome and appreciate hearing one person recommend another - in fact it’s one of the secrets of success - a recommendation often has more power than a presentation.
The result of this to you, is that it enables you to immediately attract followers, create a strong profile, and quickly begins to establish you as a leader in your chosen field or specialist area.
It will increase your following fast, but importantly it is more likely to attract focussed followers if you concentrate on one specific field, such as social media, membership websites, blogging etc.
It will basically enable you to broadcast the latest interesting and valuable news, in the same way that the influential people do - which is part of the reason they are so influential - you are emulating and duplicating their success technique, and likely to produce some of the same results.
We’re really connecting with the primary driving influences in successful peoples lives, in two ways: by following them ourselves, we create a personal connection between them and us, and as we retweet we are also helping others to connect to those influential sources. We all win.
An interesting idea is to create your own ‘twitter channel’ - on what successful people listen to and are willing to spend time on - it’s like a mini twitter-success channel.
