Note: Remember the golden rule - getting it going is far more important than getting it right.. it will be updated over time..
This static page is designed to be updated regularly with a quick start guide to creating an online presence. Subscribe to the page, and check back regularly as changes are made.
Introduction
Th online world is really no different to the offline world, in terms of what works.. You have to have something of value, and the people to whom it has value have to know you have it.. Google will often help massively with the match-making - connecting people looking for something, with people offering the same thing.
Google only knows about content on the internet - so create content that indicates what you have to offer, and then spread that content around, if possible in the areas where potential customers are likely to find it.
The easiest way to put your content onto the internet, is through blogs and social sites. This is a step by step basic list of what to do. Unfortunately it’s not a tutorial on how, most of these programs have really good tutorials and help files, and I’ll post good links.
Step By Step
Day 1
- Download the Flock Social Browser - www.flock.com
- Register for a free FaceBook account - www.facebook.com
- Register for a free MySpace account - www.myspace.com
- Get/Start/Install a blog:
I recommend WordPress. Either register for your own free blog site at www.WordPress.com, or if you have your own website, install your own WordPress blog. - Install the wordpress plugins needed for social marketing, including a ‘ping list’ - before you start to make blog posts.
- Take a rest.. and play..
Day 2
- Start a group on FaceBook about the thing you love most.
- You need to provide interesting information on your blog - decide what subject/area you are fascinated about finding out more about - and write about what you find on your blog.
- Before starting to write - understand that everything you write will be visible to the whole world - for ever, even if you delete it afterwards..
- Commit to write each week, at least one blog entry, one FaceBook entry, about something that your potential customers will find interesting..
This is where you start to create value - for them.. - Have another rest, pat yourself on the back or give yourself a hug..
