$30 for 60 seconds work
My friend Ralph, a complete self proclaimed computer ‘Luddite’, came round to see me the other day. “So how does all this internet stuff work then?” he asked..
Hmm, I thought - how can you explain the internet in a few minutes.. Well, it’s like this I began.. people want information, in fact they’re very willing to pay for it if it’s good information. The trick is to do the dating thing - match the information they want up to the people who want it. Here.. like this I said..
I logged onto Google, and setup what’s called a Google Alert, for the phrase “wordpress membership”. Now this tells Google, to send me an email, as soon as anyone posts any content (that Google knows about) that contains the phrase “wordpress membership”, whether it’s a news item, a blog post, an article, a video title or forum/discussion group - anywhere on the internet (that Google knows about).
In case you didn’t know, I help people build membership websites, and also recommend various solutions like wordpress membership plugins which make it very easy and quick.
So within a few minutes, an email comes from Google - with a link to the blog entry where someone was asking about the best wordpress membership plugin. I simply posted a reply, told them a little about this particular plugin, why it was so good and why I use a lot, and then I put in a link to the plugin download site - an affiliate link. I also told them it was my affiliate link by the way.
And that was it. The next morning, I have another email, to say I earned a $30 commission from a sale. That’s how it works Ralph.
Anyway, it got me thinking a little more over my tea, and toast with Bovril on..
For very little effort and no cost, you can be told by Google, about people who are looking for what you have. As they are looking for it! - real time. Timing is everything they say..
Let’s extend that a little. Let’s look at a site like clickbank.com, who sell lots of (more than 10,000) digital products, in nine main areas:
- Business to Business
- Health and Fitness
- Home and Family
- Computing and Internet
- Money and Employment
- Marketing and Ads
- Fun and Entertainment
- Sports and Recreation
- Society and Culture
If you were to pick an area that suited your own interests, and find the most popular (top performing) products in that category - you know you have a winner. Sign up as a clickbank affiliate, and then setup Google alerts for phrases which are common to that product, and typically used by people looking for that type of thing - and then sit back and relax.
Now some of the emails you get are from people selling those types of things, but some are from people looking for them, discussing them, and many of them are from blogs, where you can leave a comment or recommendation if it’s appropriate. If people follow your link, and buy that (very popular) product, you make a referal commission.
Of course this works just as well for your own business, or area of expertise. If you’re an EFT practitioner, setup a Google Alter for “EFT online” - people are looking for EFT practitioners who do onlien sessions. If you sell a service or product, set up an alert for key phrases used by people looking for it.
If you want to give the clickbank thing a try, to get started you need to know what the best clickbank products are in the different categories. I’ve got a cheat program which lets you find these, to show the ones which have the best profile: http://www.twodollarwebsite.info/clickbank-winners/
Then setup your Google alerts: http://www.google.com/alerts
Then keep an eye on emails, and if appropriate, post a comment or link..
My expert brother thinks this is a winner, and should probably be expanded and turned into a short paid-for tutorial - what do you think?
- to your success,
Paul.
